Synthetic tuftsin analogue heptapeptide

Selank is the naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin lengthened with the same Pro-Gly-Pro tail found in Semax. The compound came from the same Moscow team and draws research interest for anxiolytic activity that avoids the sedation and dependence linked to benzodiazepines.

How it works

The peptide adjusts how GABA-A receptors are expressed and alters the breakdown of enkephalins, pushing endogenous enkephalin levels higher. In keeping with its tuftsin heritage, it also shapes the expression of IL-6 and other cytokines.

What the research reports

In Russian clinical trials for generalised anxiety disorder, selank produced effects on a par with medazepam yet without the sedation. Rodent experiments report less anxiety-like behaviour together with shifts in GABAergic gene expression.

Key research areas

  • Anxiolytic research — Open-field and elevated-plus-maze paradigms
  • GABAergic modulation — Expression of receptor subunits
  • Enkephalin metabolism — Inhibition of peptidases
  • Immune signalling — Cytokine expression arising from tuftsin activity

Selank dosage: what the published studies used

The table lists the amount, frequency and duration each Selank study reports, in the model it used. Most peptide research is animal or cell work, so the model column matters as much as the number. These figures describe the research. They are not a recommendation, and Peptide Aus does not give dosing advice for people.

How to reconstitute Selank

Selank ships as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder and is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before laboratory use. Volumes used on this page: 10mg: 2 mL.

  1. Let the vial reach room temperature. Take it out of the freezer about 15 minutes beforehand so condensation doesn't form inside.
  2. Swab both stoppers. Wipe the Selank vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with an alcohol swab and let them dry.
  3. Draw the water. Use a fresh syringe to draw the volume for your vial size from the bacteriostatic water vial.
  4. Add it slowly down the inside wall. Aim the stream at the glass, not at the powder, so the cake dissolves without foaming.
  5. Swirl, don't shake. Roll the vial gently between your fingers until the solution is clear. Shaking can damage the peptide.
  6. Label and refrigerate. Write the date and concentration on the vial and store it at 2–8 °C, protected from light. Never freeze reconstituted solution.
  7. Work out the concentration. The vial maths table above, or the calculator, converts milligrams and millilitres into mg/mL and syringe units.

Frequently asked questions

What is Selank?

Synthetic tuftsin analogue heptapeptide.

What is Selank studied for?

Anxiolytic research: open-field and elevated-plus-maze paradigms. GABAergic modulation: expression of receptor subunits. Enkephalin metabolism: inhibition of peptidases. Immune signalling: cytokine expression arising from tuftsin activity. In Russian clinical trials for generalised anxiety disorder, selank produced effects on a par with medazepam yet without the sedation. Rodent experiments report less anxiety-like behaviour together with shifts in GABAergic gene expression.

Selank before and after: what do the studies show?

Russian anxiety trials described anxiolytic effects matching a benzodiazepine while avoiding sedation; rodent work reported less anxious behaviour and altered GABA-A subunit expression.

What side effects has Selank research reported?

No dependence, sedation or withdrawal surfaced in the Russian trials, and controlled safety data from Western sources are not available.

What is the Selank dosage?

In the published Selank research, the amounts used were 0.3 mg/kg intraperitoneal, Single injection in rat, morphine withdrawal model (Konstantinopolsky MA et al. (2022)); 0.3 mg/kg intraperitoneal, Daily in rat, chronic ethanol model (Kolik LG et al. (2019)); 100, 300 or 1000 μg/kg intraperitoneal, 15 min before each stress session in rat (male wistar), chronic foot-shock stress (Fomenko EV et al. (2019)). These are the figures each study reports for its own model, listed in full in the dosage table on this page with links to PubMed. Peptide Aus supplies Selank for in-vitro research and does not give dosing guidance for people.

Should I choose the Selank nasal spray or the vial?

In Russia selank is taken as a nasal preparation, but the sprays on sale online are unverified; Peptide Aus provides the 10mg vial for laboratory research.

Selank vs semax: what is the difference?

Where selank is aimed at anxiety, semax is aimed at cognition.

Selank vs N-acetyl selank: what is the difference?

An altered form promoted for longer action, though the supporting evidence concerns the original sequence.

How do you reconstitute Selank (10mg)?

Add about 2 mL of bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside of the vial and swirl gently; do not shake. 10mg in 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL. Refrigerate at 2–8 °C after reconstitution and use within 8–12 weeks. The calculator has this vial preset.

How should Selank be stored?

Lyophilised: −20 °C, sealed, away from light and moisture. Reconstituted: 2–8 °C, used within 8–12 weeks, never frozen.

Is Selank legal in Australia?

In Australia, Selank holds no Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) registration as a medicine and carries no approval for use in humans or animals. The material is offered by Peptide Aus strictly as a research reagent intended for in-vitro laboratory work. The Poisons Standard and the Therapeutic Goods Act set the rules for supplying any substance for human use in this country, and lawful use of the material rests with the buyer. Anyone seeking treatment should consult a doctor.

Where can I buy Selank in Australia, and what does it cost?

Directly from Peptide Aus, from Australian stock: Selank (10mg) is $94.99 AUD including GST. Paid orders before 2pm AEST/AEDT dispatch the same business day, tracked.
