AOD-9604 (5mg)
Research AOD-9604 vial, dispatched from Australian stock. In Stock
Modified C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (residues 176-191)
AOD-9604 is a 16-amino-acid piece of human growth hormone, matching residues 176-191 with an extra tyrosine added to the N-terminus. Researchers at Monash University in Melbourne created it to pull the fat-burning stretch of GH away from the regions that drive growth and insulin effects, which makes it one of the rare research peptides to have come out of Australia.
How it works
In cell and animal studies the fragment drives lipolysis and holds back lipogenesis in adipocytes without lifting IGF-1 or disturbing glucose handling. The mechanism put forward points to beta-3 adrenergic receptor signalling within fat tissue rather than to the GH receptor itself.
What the research reports
Rodent studies from the Monash team reported lower fat mass in obese models. Human trials run by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals during the 2000s reported only modest weight loss that fell short of the company's efficacy targets, and obesity development was halted. Work since then has turned to cartilage repair in osteoarthritis models.

The table lists the amount, frequency and duration each AOD-9604 study reports, in the model it used. Most peptide research is animal or cell work, so the model column matters as much as the number. These figures describe the research. They are not a recommendation, and Peptide Aus does not give dosing advice for people.
| Study | Model | Amount used | How often | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ng FM et al. (2000) | Rat, obese Zucker rats | 500 µg/kg body weight, oral | Daily | 19 days |
| Kwon DR et al. (2015) | Rabbit, knee osteoarthritis model (n=32) | 0.25 mg intra-articular, alone or with 6 mg hyaluronic acid | Weekly | Weeks 4–7 after the first collagenase injection |

How to reconstitute AOD-9604
AOD-9604 ships as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder and is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before laboratory use. Volumes used on this page: 5mg: 1 mL.
- Let the vial reach room temperature. Take it out of the freezer about 15 minutes beforehand so condensation doesn't form inside.
- Swab both stoppers. Wipe the AOD-9604 vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with an alcohol swab and let them dry.
- Draw the water. Use a fresh syringe to draw the volume for your vial size from the bacteriostatic water vial.
- Add it slowly down the inside wall. Aim the stream at the glass, not at the powder, so the cake dissolves without foaming.
- Swirl, don't shake. Roll the vial gently between your fingers until the solution is clear. Shaking can damage the peptide.
- Label and refrigerate. Write the date and concentration on the vial and store it at 2–8 °C, protected from light. Never freeze reconstituted solution.
- Work out the concentration. The vial maths table above, or the calculator, converts milligrams and millilitres into mg/mL and syringe units.

Frequently asked questions
What is AOD-9604?
Modified C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (residues 176-191).
What is AOD-9604 studied for?
Adipocyte lipolysis: studies of the beta-3 adrenergic pathway in fat cells. Lipogenesis inhibition: fat-storage endpoints in diet-induced obesity models. Cartilage research: paired with hyaluronic acid in osteoarthritis models. IGF-1 independence: metabolic effects achieved without switching on the growth axis.
AOD-9604 before and after: what do the studies show?
Rodent studies reported lower fat mass with no change in food intake. The human obesity trials of the 2000s reported modest weight loss that missed the efficacy targets, which closed that development program; the work since then sits in cartilage models.
What side effects has AOD-9604 research reported?
The human trials reported tolerability close to placebo, with no effect on glucose or IGF-1, which was exactly the design intent. There is little data at higher doses or over longer durations.
What is the AOD-9604 dosage?
In the published AOD-9604 research, the amounts used were 500 µg/kg body weight, oral, Daily in rat, obese zucker rats (Ng FM et al. (2000)); 0.25 mg intra-articular, alone or with 6 mg hyaluronic acid, Weekly in rabbit, knee osteoarthritis model (Kwon DR et al. (2015)). These are the figures each study reports for its own model, listed in full in the dosage table on this page with links to PubMed. Peptide Aus supplies AOD-9604 for in-vitro research and does not give dosing guidance for people.
Does AOD-9604 come as capsules or tablets?
Oral AOD-9604 products do exist, because the fragment is unusually stable and one human study used an oral formulation. Peptide Aus supplies the lyophilised vial, which is the format used in the reconstitution and injection-model research.
AOD-9604 vs hGH fragment 176-191: what is the difference?
One and the same molecule: AOD-9604 is fragment 176-191 with an added tyrosine.
AOD-9604 vs retatrutide: what is the difference?
A completely different class: AOD-9604 acts on adipocyte lipolysis, while retatrutide is a receptor agonist that affects appetite and energy expenditure.
AOD-9604 vs CJC-1295 + ipamorelin: what is the difference?
That pairing raises growth hormone itself; AOD-9604 is a GH fragment built to sidestep growth-axis effects.
Why is AOD-9604 significant for Australian research?
Melbourne is where it was designed and first tested, and its development story is one of the clearest cases of isolating a single region of a hormone from the rest in order to study one effect on its own.
How do you reconstitute AOD-9604 (5mg)?
Add about 1 mL of bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside of the vial and swirl gently; do not shake. 5mg in 1 mL gives 5 mg/mL. Refrigerate at 2–8 °C after reconstitution and use within 8–12 weeks. The calculator has this vial preset.
How should AOD-9604 be stored?
Lyophilised: −20 °C, sealed, away from light and moisture. Reconstituted: 2–8 °C, used within 8–12 weeks, never frozen.
Is AOD-9604 legal in Australia?
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has not registered AOD-9604 as a medicine in Australia, and it is not approved for human or veterinary use. Peptide Aus provides it as a research reagent for in-vitro laboratory work only. In Australia the supply of any substance for human use falls under the Poisons Standard and the Therapeutic Goods Act, and using the material lawfully is the buyer's responsibility. Anyone after a treatment should consult a doctor.
Where can I buy AOD-9604 in Australia, and what does it cost?
Directly from Peptide Aus, from Australian stock: AOD-9604 (5mg) is $99.99 AUD including GST. Paid orders before 2pm AEST/AEDT dispatch the same business day, tracked.
