Bacteriostatic water: what it is and how much to use
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water carrying 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which holds back bacterial growth so a reconstituted vial stays usable over weeks instead of a single occasion. Most peptide vials call for 1-3 mL; NAD+ 500mg needs 5 mL and glutathione 600mg needs 6 mL. In Australia it is sold in 10mL and 30mL vials.
Why not just plain sterile water
Plain sterile water carries no preservative, so a vial made up with it should be used straight away. The benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water keeps a reconstituted peptide good across the 8-12 week window at 2-8 °C.

Where to buy it in Australia
Research suppliers stock bacteriostatic water, and some pharmacies do too; the common searches at Chemist Warehouse and Priceline usually come up empty. [Peptide Aus stock status for bacteriostatic water and syringes to be confirmed.]
Syringes
Insulin-type U-100 syringes are what laboratory handling uses to measure reconstituted solution, and the calculator reports the amounts in units for that syringe.
Frequently asked questions
Is bacteriostatic water the same as saline?
No. Bacteriostatic saline carries sodium chloride and is a separate preparation; peptides are reconstituted with bacteriostatic water.
How long does an opened bacteriostatic water vial keep?
Manufacturers put it at 28 days after the first puncture.
